How and when to clean Black Berkey® elements
Share
The Black Berkey® filters are designed to last a long time, but it is important to clean them regularly to maintain their efficiency. Here is how to clean the elements:
-
When to clean?
- Visual Signal : If you notice that the water is flowing more slowly through the filters, this could be a sign that they are dirty and need to be cleaned.
- Every 6 months : It is recommended to clean the filters at least twice a year, even if there is no noticeable reduction in water flow.
-
How to clean?
- Remove the Elements : Turn off the water filter and carefully remove the Black Berkey® elements from the filter housing.
- Use a scouring pad : Clean the outside of the elements with a scouring pad (such as a green sponge) dampened with water. Gently rub the surface to remove dirt and buildup.
- Avoid cleaning agents : Do not use soap, chemical cleaning agents or bleach as these can damage the filter elements.
- Rinsing : Rinse the elements thoroughly with clean, cold water to remove all dirt residue.
- Check the elements : Check the elements for cracks or damage. If they are damaged, replace them.
Regularly cleaning your Black Berkey® elements ensures that they continue to function optimally and that you always have clean water.
